Eagles Seize Early Control
The Malian attacker had given his side the lead around the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group clash at the iconic Casablanca stadium, drilling home from close range after his first effort from a set-piece had been deflected.
Mali controlled the tempo and had an opportunity to take the lead in the closing stages of the first half after a Malian forward was brought down in the penalty area by Zambian defender Matthews Banda.
The designated penalty taker took responsibility for Mali but his powerful strike was expertly kept out by Chipolopolo goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.
Daka's Late Response
Daka eventually secured a point for the former champions, who were for the most part outmuscled by the aerial strength of the Malians until Banda's lofted cross was powered home by the striker.
Group A Table
The result means each team a couple of points behind host nation Morocco in the Group A table after Morocco won their first match 2-0 against the Coelacanths at the weekend.
Chipolopolo will remain in Casablanca to face their second fixture against their next opponents on Friday, while Mali journey to the capital for a crunch showdown against Morocco.
